A Day in Toledo; Day Trip From Madrid

Taking a day trip to Toledo was definitely the hi-light of my stay in Madrid. From the moment I stepped off the train, I was instantly enchanted by this medieval town! If you are taking a trip to Madrid, please plan to spend a day in Toledo, you will not regret it!  The following is a list of some really great things to see/do in order to get the most out of your day in Toledo.

GETTING THERE

Toledo is only a 30 min train ride from Madrid and a return ticket will only cost you about  €20! Therefore, there is no reason for you not to make the trip!

WHAT TO DO/SEE

Visit the Catedral Primada de ToledoI cannot even begin to put into words how incredible this cathedral is. I have seen quite a few churches and cathedrals during my time in Europe and I can tell you with absolute certainty that this one is, by far, my favourite! Pictures simply do not do it justice, you must see it for yourself! Entrance to the cathedral is  €8 and worth every penny!

Check out El Greco’s Masterpiece: After taking a tour of Toledo’s cathedral, head over to the Santo Tome church to get a glimpse of one of El Greco’s masterpieces (The Burial of Count Orgaz). It it absolutely stunning! Entrance to the church is  €2.50.

Take a stroll: Exploring the winding roads and taking in the beautiful scenery is an absolute must. We spent the majority of the afternoon doing just that and it was amazing!

Shop around for Damascene jewelry: In practically every single store window, you will find something called Mazapan de Toledo (or Damascene). These window displays instantly caught my eye and as soon as I saw the jewelry and little decorative trinkets, I knew I had to have them in my life. Every piece has a black base with intricate gold detailing over top. Seeing as Damascene is a specialty in Toledo, you may want to pick up a little something to bring home with you!

WHERE TO EAT

Grab lunch at La AbadiaThe best tapas we had during our time in Spain were the ones we had at La Abadia. They were so different and incredibly delicious! I would highly recommend grabbing lunch here during your stay in Toledo.

Let me know if you’ve been to Toledo and if you loved it as much as i did!
