A Day in Sestri Levante; A Day trip from Milan

I’m back with another travel post today! This one’s all about a beautiful little beach town I visited this past May called Baia del Silenzio in Sestri Levante.

After a full week of sightseeing and day trips around Northern Italy, it was time for some serious R&R. We decided that our final day trip destination needed to include lounging by a beach! Cinque Terre would have been a fantastic option had we not already been a couple years back. We really wanted to try something new, however, beaches in Northern Italy aren’t exactly easy to come by. After doing a bit of research and putting my mom’s Italian speaking skills to good use, we discovered that a 2.5-hour train ride could take us straight to a beautiful beach in Sestri Levante. We spent a full day at the beach and really took the time to recharge before heading off to Assisi the following day!

GETTING THERE AND AROUND

You can take a train from Milano Centrale to Sestri Levante. Considering that it’s a 2.5-hour journey, I would recommend leaving as early as possible in order be able to enjoy a full day at the beach! Once you arrive, you can simply take a short walk down to Corso Colombo where you’ll find a cute flea market, a few shops, and a nice church. When you reach the end of the street, take Via XXV Aprile until you reach Baia del Silenzio!

WHAT TO DO/ SEE

Pick a beach, lay a towel out on the sand and relax!

WHERE TO EAT

If you are looking for a quick bite to eat, Panificio Luca 2 is a great option! They’re delicious homemade focaccia and lovely pastries are perfect to bring along to the beach.

For a refreshing treat, check out Gelateria Baciollo. They’re gelato is excellent and they offer a wide variety of flavours!

We didn’t want to spend much time sitting at a restaurant but if a sit-down dinner is what you’re after, there are plenty of places to eat along the boardwalk.

Have you ever been to Sestri Levante? I’d love to know if you have any other beach recommendations near Milan!
