A Day Around Lake Como; A Day Trip from Milan

Should you only have the time to make one day trip from Milan, make it Lake Como! It’s the perfect destination for some R&R after a long week of sightseeing in the big city. Not only is it an ideal spot for relaxation, but it also happens to offer some of the most incredible views! It’s hard to put into words just  how beautiful it really is. In fact, my pictures won’t even do it justice (although I am far from being a professional photographer…)! This is a place you simply need to see for yourself!

GETTING THERE & GETTING AROUND

There are many little towns to visit around Lake Como but, if you only have a day to explore, I would recommend Varenna and Bellagio. Both are stunning and only a 15 min ferry ride apart. You can take a train from Milano Centrale to Varenna and, from there, a ferry to Bellagio. I would suggest heading to Bellagio immediately upon arrival, grabbing lunch, walking around and then  making your way back to Varenna for dinner.

WHERE TO EAT

The Florence

Grab some lunch at this excellent restaurant in Bellagio which offers a lovely view of the lake and some delicious classic Italian dishes. You’ll know you’ve arrived when you spot the adorable pink table cloths. Try their homemade lasagna or pasta alla bolognese!

Gelateria del Borgo

To satisfy your sweet tooth in Bellagio, climb to the top of the steps and head over to Gelateria del Borgo for the most scrumptious gelato.

Bar il Molo

For a more casual dining experience, check out Bar il Molo in Varenna. This quiet little eatery is perfect for “aperitivo” whilst enjoying a stunning view of the lake. To be honest, there aren’t many places that don’t have an incredible view of the lake, so you can’t really go wrong when it comes to casual dining!

WHAT TO DO

I’m going to keep it very simple here… Take a stroll, admire the incredible scenery and RELAX!

Have you ever been to Lake Como? I’d love to know what your favourite town is!
